Welcome to PS 18 Community School

Dear PS 18 School Community,

My name is Sandy Sims and I’m extremely happy to join the staff of PS 18 John G. Whittier school as the new Community School Director for United Activities Unlimited. I have many years of experience in an academic environment supporting families.

A community school delivers services for children and families, connecting them to resources in the community and fostering academic success. Its integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth development and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities.

As the Community School Director, I will initiate, facilitate, and support programs and strategies that are aligned with the school’s vision and mission. To achieve these results, we are creating stronger partnerships with all members and stakeholders of our community.  Our new approach will be based on assessing the needs of the community and providing resources and opportunities based on the following Core Elements:

  • Student Attendance
  • Food Insecurities
  • Health Services
  • Guidance and Social Services
  • Parent and Family Engagement
  • Adult Education
  • Positive Youth Development
  • Community Building

I look forward to getting to know you more and welcome all of your feedback and suggestions so that together we can help our children thrive.  Together we are reimagining what the school experience can be. Do not hesitate to get in contact with me at ssims@unitedactivities.org or by phone at ‪(347) 280-3155‬.  I’m excited to be part of this journey with you all.

In Unity,
Sandy Sims
